Today, when I went to my flat with the ID at 11.30am, all the walls that need to be hacked down were gone. The kitchen cabinets were gone also. Pretty fast with only two men doing the job. One is from China and I think the other Malaysian. The ID told me that they will be hacking the two toilets tomorrow and after that they will dispose of all the rubbish. Next they will plaster the walls and then start on the carpentry and flooring.
I decided to change both the bedroom doors as they are old and they are those 1980s kind which is covered with plastic in front. Each door costs $200.
Total damage= $400
The ID is trying to convince me to redo the wiring in my house. It will cost about $2,600 and includes new switches, thekind with big buttons that I like. I am still thinking about it.
I went to Genova (the toiletries company) and bought another WC, similar to the one that I bought the last time. I changed the mixer in the MBR to one with the tap. This would be more convenient in case we need to get water from a pail to mop the floor. I changed the common toilet mixer to a Grohe one.
Total damage= $410.
Next, I went to the lock shop at Jalan Sultan. I bought one front door lock set and two lever type locks for both the bedrooms. I also asked about the soft closing hinge for the wardrobe and kitchen cabinets. They are asking $4.30 for the Blum brand one. The ID wants $10 for each of these. Maybe I will buy and ask them to install.
Total damage= $160
Next, I walked to Jalan Besar and bought two KDK exhaust fans for the toilet. Also bought an aluminium rack to hold the bamboo rods for laundry.
Total damage= $132
I took all these things by cab to the ID's office. Then, I walked to Genting Road to look at some sofas. There is this shop named Fashion Home Pte Ltd. Very big sia, 5 storeys. There is one L-shaped sofa in beige leather advertised for $999 and it looks pretty decent. I will bring gf on Sunday to go and take a look.
